The Abyss Within is a painting that feels deeply personal to me.

I wanted to portray a spirit of the ocean moving through her natural element while carrying the depths of the abyss within herself.

For me, the piece speaks about the quiet coexistence of light and darkness, surface and depth. Even as we rise, grow, and move forward, we carry the unseen parts of ourselves with us. The abyss is not something to escape from, but something to acknowledge and integrate.

Visually, I wanted to emphasize the contrast between fluidity and structure. The flowing transparency of watercolor moves alongside intricate ink linework, echoing the relationship between the ever-changing nature of water and the deeper patterns that remain beneath the surface.

Created with watercolor, ink, and metallic pigments on archival paper, The Abyss Within is an exploration of depth, transformation, and the hidden currents that shape us.
